$75,000-$100,000 annually, depending on experience

Job Summary

Canyon Construction Company, a Durango-based heavy civil contractor, is seeking an experienced Project Manager to oversee a variety of utility and infrastructure projects throughout the Four Corners region. This position is responsible for ensuring projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with contract requirements while serving as the primary point of contact for clients, engineers, subcontractors, vendors, and field personnel.

The ideal candidate is an organized, solutions-oriented leader with a strong background in civil construction and a commitment to building positive working relationships. Because Canyon Construction performs extensive work on the Navajo Nation and Southern Ute Indian Reservation, cultural awareness and professionalism are essential.

Responsibilities

  • Manage civil construction projects from contract award through project closeout.
  • Develop and maintain project schedules, budgets, forecasts, and cost controls.
  • Coordinate field crews, subcontractors, suppliers, and equipment to support project success.
  • Review plans, specifications, contracts, and change orders to ensure project compliance.
  • Prepare and manage RFIs, submittals, pay applications, progress reports, and other project documentation.
  • Monitor project productivity, costs, and profitability, identifying opportunities for improvement.
  • Conduct site visits to monitor quality, safety, and construction progress.
  • Collaborate with superintendents to resolve field issues and maintain production schedules.
  • Assist with estimating, budgeting, bid preparation, and project planning.
  • Identify project risks and implement solutions to minimize delays and cost impacts.
  • Foster strong relationships with owners, engineers, inspectors, subcontractors, vendors, and tribal representatives.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, local, and tribal regulations.
  • Promote and support Canyon Construction's safety culture and company values.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of experience managing civil construction projects.
  • Experience managing projects up to $3 million in contract value.
  • Strong knowledge of utility construction, grading, process piping, and civil infrastructure.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contracts.
  • Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and time management skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field.
  • Experience with horizontal directional drilling (HDD) and trenchless construction methods.
  • Experience preparing construction estimates and project budgets.
  • Experience working on municipal, utility, water/wastewater, or tribal projects.
